OUR TECHNOLOGY
Traditional MICROENCAPSULATION packages solids, liquid or gaseous material within a polymer shell forming small particles called microcapsules. These shells, which protect the actives in the core, dissolve through a specific stimulus releasing their content at a targeted time and place.
The Additive Advantage’s patented INTEGRATED DELIVERY PLATFORM (IDP) TECHNOLOGY takes microencapsulation much further. Whereas microcapsules protect the actives, our technology protects the microcapsules… as well as affixes them to substrates through a proprietary printing process.

THE PRINTING ADVANTAGE
Printing is far superior to coating, which permits only one contiguous layer per constituent… making it ineffective for multiple ingredients. In contrast, our printing technology allows different actives to be added to the same surface but still remain independent of each other…
Our technology
can deliver true
BINARY FLAVORS… for example, mint AND chocolate as opposed to mint-chocolate.
We can easily provide
BINARY MIXING without
restriction…which until now could only be
administered at bedside.
The microcapsule DOSELETS can be printed as a graphic for marketing and esthetics purposes or to provide product information. The graphics even aid in quality control by making it easier to visually identify possible anomalies. Printing also provides flexibility to adapt to the product container.
WHAT’S INSIDE?
The printed microcapsules called SPHERENES contain any combination of…
RELEASE & TRIGGERS
The Additive Advantage’s printed doselets can be designed to be bioavailable either through IMMEDIATE or LATENT release.
As an example, a liquid (water, juice, tea, etc.) can be added to our Integrated Delivery Platform (IDP) Cup and the doselets will release their ingredients immediately upon hydration. Other microcapsules can be configured to detach themselves from the cup lining but delay the release of their contents until a predetermined time, such as when they reach an individual’s stomach.
The doselets can be made to react to numerous triggers, including time, PH, shock, temperature, microwave energy, tactile breakage (pressure, crushing, contact), bacteria or microbial infestation.
DOSAGE CAPABILITIES
The doselets on the interior of our IDP cup are a known weight making ACCURATE DOSING possible… and providing the same effectiveness as a pill, tablet, or oral suspension.
Extremely precise MICRODOSING… down to a microgram… is only achievable through printing. Our technology prints a known quantity onto a known carrier ensuring an exact dosage every time. The visual integrity of the printed symbol, image, or font guarantees its accuracy.
EFFERVECTION
Our self-stirring technology ensures that the microcapsule doselets dissolve and that the solution is uniformly mixed when a liquid, such as water, is introduced. A convective disturbance is created in the liquid as effervescent bubbles pass through and rise to the surface, which effectively stirs the material.
Effervection further fractionates the printed doselets causing them to break up faster. This, combined with the subsequent stirring, gives our technology the advantage of mixing material that would normally agglomerate in sachet form.
OUR COMPANY
The Additive Advantage is a privately-owned manufacturing and licensing company focusing on proprietary microencapsulation and latent active delivery systems in the field of food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, veterinary, and cosmetics.
We apply our technology platforms in collaboration with companies to help them enhance their existing product lines, exploit market opportunities, and solve problems.
COLLABORATIONS
At The Additive Advantage, we work with companies to provide research, feasibility testing, development, and licensing. With experience spanning more than two decades, our team possesses extensive knowledge of how to uniquely apply microcapsules in ways that allow us to provide solutions for a wide-range of industries…
Our clients include startups that use our technology to launch new products… and their businesses onto the marketplace.
Mid-level companies look to us for new innovations that allow them to grow and become a bigger player in their industry.
Working alongside their R & D departments, Fortune 500 companies seek our help to solve internal problems by applying our technologies in ways that are often unrelated to their obvious uses.
